I consider myself lucky that I’ve never been much of a snacker. I like my three meals per day, and that’s it.
On the rare occasion that I want a snack I prefer something with high protein. This usually means a protein shake because it’s quick, easy, and tastes good.
Lately, Biltong has been my go-to snack—specifically, Farmer Bill’s Provisions.
I’ve always enjoyed beef jerky. But then I started reading the label. If you’re buying the mainstream stuff off the shelf, I recommend you do the same. It’s hardly beef in that snack anymore. And you know the beef is not high quality.
That is not the case with Farmer Bill’s.
What is Biltong?
This is a South African form of air-dried and cured meat gaining popularity over the last few years. It is marinated, dried, and then sliced. This is different than beef jerky, which is sliced, marinated, and then cooked with low heat. The different processes result in a completely different flavor and texture. You’ll find biltong is softer and drier compared to jerky.
Regenerative Farming
All the beef and bison used to make Farmer Bill’s Biltong come from regenerative farms. This means the cows and bison are free to roam the land and graze like they would naturally. They aren’t stuffed in factory farms and pumped full of preservatives.
This added benefit of this style of farming is the help restore the soil, rather than stripping it of all its nutrients.
Clean Meat
There is no added sugar, preservatives, seed oils, or nitrates. This is as clean as it comes for a snack that’s as portable and delicious as biltong. You don’t need all that junk when you prepare it right.
High Protein
Every serving of biltong (1 oz) packs 10 grams of protein. That’s about the same as all the beef jerky on the market and far better than all the ultra-processed crap you buy at the grocery store. You may notice that your biltong is slightly higher in fat - that’s ok. It’s more satiating than added carbs and sugar.
The only place to go for biltong is Farmer Bill’s Provisions. This is hands down the best place to pick up your cured meat snack.
They were kind enough to offer 20% off everything in their store for a short time using the promo code “RENEGADE” at checkout.
I have tried everything in their store, and let me tell you, it’s good. I personally enjoy the Chili Beef or sliced bison. If you want something softer and easier to snack on, get the sliced biltong. If you want to slice into your own beef and enjoy a fresh, delicious slice of biltong, buy the slab.
If you want a portable snack on the go, word on the street is biltong sticks are coming back soon—last time I got these, my son ate them all in a day.
Make sure you use code “RENEGADE” at checkout so you can get 20% off.
Biltong isn’t the only thing they sell at Farmer Bill’s Provisions. They make some of the best tallow balms out there with the same regenerative practices and high quality.
I’ve talked about how I use the sleepy cow balm on my son’s feet before bed, and it works like a charm. I cannot recommend their tallow products enough. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
As always, make sure you use the promo code “RENEGADE” and get 20% off.
I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of Farmer Bill’s. I am a total convert from jerky to biltong. I have no doubt you will be, too, once you try it.
Thank you for the recommendation! I placed an order this morning!
Ordered two 1/2 pound packs of the sliced beef to try, thanks for the tip! Used your promo code.
