The saying, “don’t drink your calories” has become so common it’s almost a cliche. That doesn’t make it any less true.

Of all the ways to over-consume calories, drinking excess calories is the easiest and least healthy. In this article I will explain why.

What do I mean by “drink your calories?” It’s pretty much what it sounds like. Drinking something high in calories. This can be fruit juice, soda, or any number of things.

The biggest problem with consuming these beverages is the ease with which you can consume them. Consider the average American sitting down for a meal at a restaurant. They order a coke which comes in a huge glass. Before their food comes they’ve probably downed the whole glass and the server is bringing more. By the end of the meal they may have gone through 3 glasses without batting an eye.
